Tikkurila Color of the Year 2020: When life gives you lemons, make lemonade


Tikkurila's color of the year is H300 Lemonade, which represents positivity and optimism. The color and color collection of the year invites you to look on the bright side of life.

Tikkurila’s H300 Lemonade is a continuation of the yellow trend that has been seen in fashion and decor. At the same time, it is bright and soft, energizing and sophisticated  a delightful shade to replace everyday grey and beige. H300 Lemonade is a breath of fresh air and reminds us of the power of positivity. There is always a flash of light somewhere, there is always the opportunity for change – both at home and around the world. The H300 Lemonade continues the same positive message as last year's color K319 Flamingo.

Transforming the Ordinary into the Magical

Fashion designer Laura Juslin and architect Lilli Maunula designed the Color of the Year and Color Now 2020 collection with Tikkurila color expert Irina Hanhisalo. The concept was based on transforming the ordinary into the magical.

“The concept is to make everyday things interesting and new with the help of color. With a small amount of paint, you can transform slightly dull, everyday spaces into magical. Although the color collection is also about trends, its purpose is not to be too exquisite”, says Irina Hanhisalo.

The result, a collection of eight colors, feels new and familiar at the same time. The color collection combines deep and dark colors with cool and fresh to form a playful whole. The color collection inspires to try surprising and delightful color combinations.

Color Now 2020 Collection

Designer duo Juslin-Maunula approaches colors with curiosity and courage. The goal of the duo is to discover new perspectives in the world of fashion and design. Finding the right color combinations is like finding the right frequency. Instead of relying on conventional solutions, designers challenge themselves with new color combinations.

The inspiration for the 2020 color collection came from the world of design and fashion, both in the past decades and today.

"No color could be left out of the Color Now 2020 collection because all the chosen colors work well together", Juslin and Maunula explain.

The Color Now 2020 project was rewarding for Juslin and Maunula. The result makes the designers smile.

“Our design philosophy combined well with Tikkurila’s color philosophy. A splash of color and a touch of creativity is all that is needed for the ordinary space or object to become the dearest of all. The same goes for the paint”, the designers say.

The saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade", sums up well the inspiration behind Tikkurila’s Color of the Year H300 Lemonade.
