The annual investment awards recognize foreign investors in Kazakhstan for their investment activity and development for local production and high-tech industries.
In December 2015, Tikkurila was among 10 companies who received the award in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, presented by the Kazakhstan Minister for Investment and Development.
"There were over 140 foreign companies investing in Kazakhstan in 2015, but Tikkurila was the only paint producer on the list. We are naturally very proud of this achievement", says Anton Peshkov, Managing Director, TOO Tikkurila.
Tikkurila received the award for its investment in a production facility, opened in Almaty in April 2015. The factory is a pilot for Tikkurila’s new concept for production facilities. The investment totals less than EUR 1 million. Currently, the factory produces a limited range of water-borne decorative paints for local market needs.
"We have received lots of positive feedback with our local presence in Kazakhstan. The pilot has been a success and we have been able to follow the original production plan without any setbacks. Overall, the concept is very flexible and we will also utilize it in our future projects", says Petri Miettinen, Senior Vice President, Supply Chain Management & HSEQ.
The other awards for investment activity went to the Turkish companies Daedong Industrial Co., LTD (tractors), Abdi Ibrahim (pharmaceuticals), the US company Halliburton International Gmbh (production of barite concentrate), and the Australian-British Concern Rio Tinto Mining and Exploration Ltd (porphyry copper exploration). For the reinvestment activity, the Minister awarded the Turkish BTM Group companies (construction materials), ‘Coca-Cola Icecek AS’ (soft drinks), the Japanese company Toyota Trusho Corporation (agricultural production), South Korean Lotte Group (confectionery production), and French Danone (dairy products).
Tikkurila has had operations in Kazakhstan since 2006, and it currently employs around 30 people in the country. Tikkurila, which is the market leader in Kazakhstan in premium products, is the first Western paint producer starting local production in the country. Tikkurila has production in ten countries, with Kazakhstan being the most recent addition to the list.
